It's Tuesday this time! Do you know what that means, ark hunters? It means it's time for more awesome Q&A with the Defiance team! 

  1. If Syfy decides to renew Defiance for another season, do you plan in continuing to crossover content and if you so what would we see?
    Yes, we will continue to do crossover content between the show and the game. We can’t talk about what we would see though since we don’t want to spoil things.
  2. Will weapon skills ever go past 20 in the future?
    Rather than going over 20, we’ve talked about letting players reduce their skill back to 1 in exchange for a permanent bonus.
  3. What changes are targeted for the late September patch?
    While we haven’t announced the content for the Fall patch yet, there are quite a few bug fixes and quality of life improvements in it. We will have it out on PTS a few weeks before its released too, so keep a look out for it!
  4. Will other lock boxes have jackpot items in the future?
    We’re looking at adding jackpot items to the specialized lock boxes, like the veteran or the corporate espionage boxes, but those items would probably not rotate in and out. We’d just craft a jackpot item for each specialty.
  5. What can you tell us about what’s coming for Extra Life? Will Devs be streaming this year as well?
    Some devs will be streaming, but we have no plans for an official 24-hour Trion stream. We will be doing special events, however.
  6. Is it possible that we might have EGO codes released between seasons, maybe released during livestreams?
    This is a good idea – we appreciate the players who tune into the Defiance livestreams and this would be a nice thanks for doing so. Perhaps the EGO code is only active during the livestream or something similar (although we would need to consider our players outside the offices time zone). We will look into this, and perhaps you will see it on a future livestream!
  7. Will our characters ever be able to fall in love?
    Do your characters not fall in love? Mine do. All the time. Love is not a mechanic we put into gameplay. Love is a thing people feel. Love is something only the player can bring to the game.
  8. Will we get more animal enemies like Saberwolves in the future?
    We’ve talked about bringing in the Saberwolves, though we’ve given more thought to introducing full-grown Shrill. Shrill have a more interesting ecology than Saberwolves, even if Saberwolves are quite cool. (We wish we had Turtle-ducks. Those are cool.)
  9. Are there any plans for more non-combat activities in the future?
    Yes, we have some interesting ideas for this, but it’s a little too early to talk about it yet. Start a thread on the forums with some ideas you have non-combat activities though – we would love to hear them!
  10. Are we going to be able to have more hidden data recorders in the future?
    Yep. We’ve got a plan to make chasing them down be more than just looking up their locations online.
  11. What is the team’s favorite lesser known lore fact about Defiance?
    The Volge were the first creatures to develop bionetic technology, and they used it to overrun the Omec on their homeworld at the edge of the Votanis System. It was only upon encountering the Volge that the Indogene started studying the technology and improving on it. Now, bionetics are an integral technology to the Indogene, even though they were not the inventors. This begs the question: did the Volge invent bionetics or did they steal it as well?
  12. Can we have the ability to sell items directly from claimables, coupled with multiple selection?
    A multi-select is something we really want to see. Additionally, we want to see better control over the multi-sell at vendors. However, we’re in no hurry to allow players to sell items for scrip without a vendor.
