Defiance was intended to go free to play on XBOX 360 and PS3 today, but Trion have said they will postpone the launch to work on some stability issues the consoles are having at the moment.

Ark hunters,

After careful deliberation, the development team has decided to postpone the launch of Defiance Free-to-Play on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, originally targeted for July 15. A significant factor contributing to this delay is that we want to ensure a stable launch.

As you’ve seen or possibly experienced this week, we’ve been having stability issues with our console platforms. The team is working on a number of game additions as part of its crossover with Season 2 of the Defiance TV show and the latest build has negatively impacted game stability. Our programmers are working on addressing these issues.

While we don’t have a new ETA for the transition to free-to-play on console, please know that this is a priority fix for us, as we are eager to welcome fans on all platforms to the new Defiance experience. We will provide updates on our progress toward the Free-to-Play launch on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as they are available. Thanks for your understanding and patience as we work to ensure a stable and successful launch on console.

I figured the FTP would be delayed on 360.  It seems we are plagued with patch issues.  But, still really like the game and will prob play until servers are shut down.

I never really seem to have any issues on 360. Bought 2 copies of the game and 2 season passes at launch and will continue to play till it dies.

The vast majority of the time I used to play Defiance on X360, I now spend playing Star Trek Online on PC. I was one of those crazy individuals that bought the game and the season pass for the console. I invested a lot of time in those characters, so I was reluctant to switch to the PC version. Plus, I have a few regular friends that I game with. It just seems that every DLC they've released has had significant issues attached. Very disappointing!

As much as I dislike the idea of consoles restricting the UI and features of PC users, I doubt the game would have survived on its own as PC only. I do feel sorry for console users though, they have a rough stability and hardware limitations. I wish they could play the game that we play.

it's kind of funny how they made such a big deal out of "An MMO on a console!" on launch that the console versions are struggling.
