Defiance Data's Anniversary Gift to the Defiance Team

We decided to do something special this year for ours (and the Defiance teams) second anniversary. Not only did we post more, and had a large giveaway, Etaew wanted to send something physical to the developers that we interact with the most out of his own pocket, as a way of saying thanks for the product and supporting us.

We tried to come up with a nice gesture, and had ideas from personalized caps over mugs over stickers, until we finally landed on T-Shirts, you can see some of the results above and read more about it below.

Why do you want to send the devs stuff?

Anniversaries are big things, Etaew had the idea to create something physical for the first anniversary too late to do anything about it. He created t-shirts before for other games, and enjoys wearing physical reminders and wanted to share this.

So why are we posting about this now?

Well the task of deciding what to send them, and coming up with designs we liked, and then getting feedback on sizes took longer than we planned.

Defiance Data branded stuff, people want that right?

Our first ideas was Defiance Data branded stuff and came up with some okay looking things, we also tried some taglines which in the end I felt was cheesy, and along with the branded stuff not as fun for the devs to wear.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Personalised designs?

We then tried some personalised designs, and while they didn't come out terrible, it was hard work creating them for every team member that we wanted to send items to.

Game images

We then settled on the idea of using game images on various articles of clothing, we tried hats, polo shirts and hoodies (which look lovely) before we settled on T-shirts.

How did you determine who received shirts, and which ones to send?

We came up with a list of people we interacted with the most, we also reached out to Rich and Kiwibird for nominations of people who would appreciate them the most. Etaew had a limited budget so we settled at the number of 10 people.

We created a page full of possible designs, and collected their first and second choices and size information. Created the order and shipped them off to Redwood and Austin offices.

Why can't we buy them?

This was a one off order for just the devs (and ourselves, sssh), we don't have the rights to sell Defiance images. However for your own personal use, you can import images into a custom t-shirt making website and create your own for you and your friends. Contact Etaew if you want some hints.

The result

Some of the designs could have been better but the others I am happy with. My favourites include the VBI logo, Thorn Liro, Tarr Traxx and Red Defi.
